Left Turn 02:56
I ride my bike around the block On the city street and on the sidewalk I make two left turns and then I turn left again A dozen times I pedal past And a dog watches me go nowhere fast He waits on the stoop in the sun For the day to be done And a girl is outside playing games While the boy next door calls her names They're growing up while I stay the same I know I'm not getting anywhere this way Going round in circles every day I can't figure out how to go right When the future seems so out of sight I ride my bike around the block On the city street and on the sidewalk I make two left turns and then I Turn left again At the corner is a tree Where you carved our names with your key I miss you, but you don’t miss me My spinning wheels hardly make a sound As I cover the same old ground I can’t get lost or found As I ride I sometimes feel the cool wind on my back Wishing everything was right on track Maybe I should take a different route A new direction that gets me out I ride my bike around the block On the city street and on the sidewalk I make two left turns and then I Turn left again I ride my bike around the block On the city street and on the sidewalk I make two left turns and at the light I turn right

What do you hear in the quiet when you’re alone And there are only the wordless waves of the unknown What do you hear in the fours in the morning of your soul When all your fears and faint of heart begin to unfold I hear voices I hear questions I hear choices And I hear silent lessons What do you see in the stillness when you feel blind And you need all six senses to know what to find What do you see in the darkness when there's nowhere to hide From the lingering loneliness that lies by your side I see colors I see impressions I see wonders I see silent lessons Silent lessons Silent lessons What do you feel as the dawn breaks and everybody sleeps And you want to get up and run away from secrets you keep I feel deep in my bones A new intention I am alone But I feel silent lessons

Let You Go 03:10
You drew a line Between have and hold You were typically kind But almost always cold I let you in But you let me know That someday you would let me down And I would have to let you go Behind the door I built a wall You never wondered what it was for It didn’t matter at all I let you in But you let me know That someday you would let me down And I would have to let you go We lay on the bed East and west sides Everything is left unsaid Though you never lied I could not break A solid stone While you sleep I lie awake I'm already alone I let you in But you let me know That someday you would let me down And I would have to let you go

I've got a pocket full of sun I pull it out to see what it's become And I hold it still and gently in my hand The sun is soft, shifting shape It spirals into a surface wave Seeps through my fingers and turns into sand I don't want to let the sun go I should have kept my eye on it like Galileo The sun slides onto the sidewalk Spreads its glow up and down the block And hits the glass windowpane across the street The sun dances in a little girl's hair Her mother's eyes squint in the glare Then it moves along casting shadows on the concrete I chase the sun like it's all mine But I can't run as fast as the sun shines My pocket's empty and inside out How will I do without the sun to make my day What can I do to make the sun stay? I've got a pocket full of sun I picked up a piece that had begun to light the sky like late afternoon in summertime Turns out there's enough to go around Anyone can have sun they found I've got a pocket full of sun I pull it out to see what its become

Amy 02:15
Amy You were lost On a clear blue day But you never went away You live In his heart And in photos on the bookcase With a laughing smile on your face We never met but now I know you well You were taken too soon but I can tell You’re never gonna disappear Sometimes I wish you’d go but you’re still here Amy You wore pearls And a yellow dress The night you told him yes Now when I go to sleep You appear In my dreams Wrapped in white and memories He says that he can love again But will it be for us like it was for you then Sometimes I think we might have been friends If beginnings weren’t also ends Amy You were lost On a clear blue day But you never went away

New blue jeans And my face washed clean High-heeled boots in black I walk fast and I don’t look back Going out for a night to forget Raise a glass to losing my mind I want to dance with someone I just met Not think what I left behind Red lipstick with gin Helps me lose track of where I’ve been Ready to go Where the music’s loud and nobody knows Going out for a night to forget Drink a toast to drowning my sins A stranger offers a cigarette I don’t smoke, but maybe it’s time to begin I don’t want to remember you calling my name I don’t want to remember yesterday I don’t want to remember that look in your eyes As you watched me walk away Flashing white lights Means it’s closing time One last shot with new friends Who I’ll never see again Going out for a night to forget Raise a glass to losing my mind I want to dance with someone I just met Not think what I left behind

His name was David Stein He was her Valentine Or so she dreamed he'd be If he would only see She told her diary That she'd cross the China Sea To be with David Stein How could she send a sign That she was more than the girl next door The one his mother wished he'd go for She wanted to be the one who would never say no That he could always count on to show love The truth was that David Stein was someone else's Valentine He hung out with the prom queen Who was more than seventeen But he knew she was alive They were in class to learn to drive One day after a parallel park She felt a special spark Like she was more than the girl next door The one his mother wished he'd go for He knew she was one of those who would never say no That he could always count on to show love On her knees she felt she had won a prize He said please, you know that you're the only one It didn't sound like a lie Then one day David Stein Took a step across the line He whispered to the baseball team That she was every guy's easy dream And they all spread the word That she goes right to third David Stein went on his way And she was all alone on Valentine's Day More than the girl next door Not the one your mother wishes you'd go for They all say that she’s the one who will never say no That you can always count on to show love
